If you’ve ever listened to NINE INCH NAILS, MINISTRY, THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, or DEPECHE MODE, then you owe thanks to NITZER EBB, as founding member BON HARRIS collaborated with the aforementioned groups to create the electronic sounds you’ve become accustomed to.
A night of indulgent industrial dance took over downtown Phoenix as English Electronic Body Music group NITZER EBB, along with Tempe synth dance duo BODY OF LIGHT, performed at the Crescent Ballroom last week.
BODY OF LIGHT took the stage early with their melancholic medleys, backlit with the color palette of a Phoenix Suns uniform. Brothers ALEX and ANDREW JARSON showed the crowd a world of cold retro futurism in songs like “Time To Kill” and “Bitter Reflection.”
I’m imagining their world so old I’m viewing it in a 4:3 aspect ratio.
HARRIS took over vocal duties as DOUGLAS MCCARTHY unfortunately had to step away from touring to treat liver cirrhosis. NITZER EBB recruited RONA ROUGEHEART of SINE to perform alongside them as they took the crowd back to the late 80s beginning with “Control I’m Here.” HARRIS treated the stage as his runway, and the sound of the synths turned the rustic ballroom into a rave set inside an old supercomputer.
The song “Murderous” is what I imagine the Tesla bots will dance to in the year 2035.
“Violent Playground” and “I Give To You” capped off the night for NITZER EBB, and before you ask:
You can pronounce it as Night-Sir or Knit-Zur. Just ask them.
