It was no mirage seeing OSEES playing out here in the desert

Walter Studios in downtown Phoenix hosted the Los Angeles-based psychedelic outfit last week alongside Arizona post-punk outfit JADE HELM for a night of indie rock debauchery.

With heavy doses of distortion and reverb, JADE HELM began the party strong. The people in the audience itching with excitement began crowdsurfing and moshing in the middle of their performance as the songs “Body Hazard” and “Nobody Cares” got the crowd off their feet.

The wailing, whammying, wild, and frequently name-changing OSSES treated the crowd to an electrifying set of hair-raising garage rock right out of the gate with lead vocalist JOHN DWYER putting the microphone inside his mouth several times during the show. Midway through the performance, DWYER put his guitar down and began letting the synths do the talking as they performed songs off of the recently released album “SORCS 80.” The instrument switch didn’t ease up the intensity, as the sound was still very fuzzy and fast, and the crowd was adamant on continuing to mosh.

I think the only thing that could’ve gotten the crowd more excited is if OSSES added a third drummer, and if JOHN DWYER swallowed the microphone like those magicians that swallow swords.

Watch JADE HELM's full set from the night here.
