Arizona band LET ALONE had their “Same Science” album release show featuring CELEBRATION GUNS, MATTSTAGRAHAM , and GOOD TERMS at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix on Friday, July 19, 2024. Though they slowly trickled the songs from the album as singles in the weeks prior to full release, it was still a show worth watching.
Starting off the night was Celebration Guns. With their emo vibe and strong early 2000’s vocals, the local band brought the tunes and delivered them straight to our earholes with a flourish of some bell solo to boot. Following up from our next door neighbor, Tucson, Mattstagraham made their way up and graced us with some quirky and unique jams. Not trying to shoehorn the audience, but I know their song “Got The Autism" really struck a chord with us. While we were entranced by the riffs being shredded, the guitar was putting in overtime and unable to keep up, snapped a string, but with the skill and speed of a true professional, the guitar player quickly re-tuned his instrument and continued into the next song sans six strings.
Making sure the energy remained high, Good Terms out of Los Angeles rounded out the roster before the guests of honor took to the stage. Like a concoction by Professor X, this band had some emo, some rock, some pop, and their chemical X consisting of some tunes so catchy you would think they were a strain of chicken pox. If any’one’ in the crowd was tired from rocking out ‘too’ hard, Good Terms revitalized them with enough energy to rock out ‘three’ hard. The showmanship was peak and surprises ranged from merchandise giveaways to guest vocals by SAM LAPONIS.
With the night drawing to a close, there was nothing left but to prepare for Let Alone. As the lights came up, the members made their way to the stage, which was framed on either side by giant scales from their album’s cover. Running through the song list from the album of honor for the night, the dark rock music was matched with the atmospheric lighting and visuals from the props on stage to the lights attached to the instruments.
From “Shanghai” to “Sycophant”, and “Sunneyes” to “Summerteeth”, the distinct Let Alone sound was the soundtrack for a night of celebration and camaraderie between the bands and the crowd. Before the first band, between bands, and after all of the bands performed, Let Alone frontman MARCUS RUSHMORE could be seen interacting with everyone in attendance to connect with those that appreciate their music, even finishing off the night with a giant group photo with everyone in the crowd.
