Do-it-yourself Folk Punk band Days N’ Daze (DND) played their eighth of nine stops on their current tour on Sunday, January 21st, 2024 at The Nile Theater in Mesa, Arizona. Opening up the night to a packed house was duo Sister Wife Sex Strike (SWSS). Pigeon and Moth from Seattle, Washington, would describe their sound as “Anarchist Folk Punk…that’s gay."
Not allowing their minimal set up to restrict them, SWSS commanded the crowd with their energy and is certainly a name to keep an eye on as they continue growing in their musical careers. After flying through the first portion of their setlist, the duo played a storytelling game with each other, which quickly devolved into a cover of the pop classic “Blue” by Eiffel 65 before finishing out their time on stage with a kiss, drawing cheers from the audience.
Despite some considerable setbacks ranging from having their tour van broken into on the road, running late and skipping their sound check, and being down their trumpet player, Days N’ Daze persisted on through the last couple of stops on their tour without letting it dampen their performances or their spirits. Fans of DND know that they are no strangers to difficulties-when founding members Jesse “Je-C” Sendejas and Whitney Flynn broke up, instead of breaking up the band they came back together to release 2013’s “Rogue Taxidermy,” which remains a fan favorite to date.
Last Sunday was no different, even with all of the new roadblocks. DND put on an explosive set, hardly taking a breath between songs before rolling immediately into the next. To close out the night, Je-C invited anybody brave enough to come up on stage to scream their hearts out during “Self Destructive Anthem,” highlighting the bands appreciation for their fans by making it a fully immersive experience and allowing everybody who wanted to participate stage time.
