The 8th Annual Mujeres Del Desierto hosted by The Sagrado had a venue packed, despite the trademark heat of the Arizona desert. With an abundance of art on display, be it visual, audio, or physical in the form of merchandise, this event was an oasis of respite in a desert of monotony that we are constantly bombarded with through social media and news outlets. A plethora of women from Native and Latino roots displayed their wealth of life experiences and history for an evening of art and culture.
From artists like Obdulia Hedge to Rachael Marshall, and poets like Anna Flores to vocalists like Marian Marino Hanneken, anyone could have found a piece of art to connect with.
For those looking for a more physical piece of art, an ancestral Danza was performed by members of local tribes. These Danzas, essentially a cultural motion prayer, consisted of choreographed dance to the beat of rhythmic drums and the shake of foot rattles. For those interested in taking something home to nourish their body, there were cultural vendors selling heritage snacks and homemade creams.
If any of this sounds appealing, we encourage you to visit The Sagrado for any future events they may have.
